Bio

My name is Walter P.o.p. Matthews IV and I was born in Baltimore MD. From a very young age my home was saturated with the soulful and smooth sounds of 70s and 80s R&B. My family loved to sing and my favorite uncle played guitar and piano. My gifts were naturally a writer so growing up in the Hip Hop era I wrote complex rhymes. I excelled as a writer in school and I wrote stories to popular comics. In 2005 I wrote my first book called The Blood of my pen. It was a poetic autobiography that mixed storytelling with poetry. During that time I was a part of a local record label called Soulhop productions where I learned how to produce and record artists. Every area of art I was exposed to began to formed me beginning on the path to my destiny. I started P.o.p. Productions in 2007 and that foundation was built from me being a Lyricist, Poet and Musician. I became popular in the poet community in 2006 and many knew that I was also a recording artist so I began to make music for poets who wanted what they wrote to sonically come to life. Once I produced founder of The Black Poetry Cafe founder Mark Goggin's classic album The 3rd Eye opener the feedback from the poet community was overwhelmingly positive. I began producing poetry albums like works of art. I found a perfect balance between the words and the music. It was a synergy and harmony. They both would enhance each other.20 full albums later that sound became Music meets poetry. An equally yoked marriage of spoken word and instrumentation.

Currently I am continuing to produce the lost art of albums and i'm looking forward for us to create your next timeless masterpiece together.Just buy your tracks from the player on the home page and we can make history! You ready?
